'Hanami' is the Japanese custom of 'viewing of flowers', mainly the 'sakura' (cherry blossoms). 'Hana' means flower and 'mi' is viewing. The cherry blossoms bloom around the beginning of April for just a short time. Hanami is somewhat like our picnic, but basically only takes place during this short period.
